Anti-slip resistance of ceramic tiles: How to choose?

When choosing a floor tile, you have surely come across a label that determines to what extent the floor is non-slip. What does this figure mean and what are the anti-slip values?

Anti-slip is important not only in the exterior, but also in the interior. In the case of less demanding spaces, such as a bedroom, living room or guest room, anti-slip is not so important. However, in the case of a kitchen or bathroom, you should definitely consider it.

 Moisture is retained in these rooms and the risk of contact with water is very high. If you did not have enough anti-slip flooring, an accident could happen once or twice.

The same is true for the exterior. Water, rain, snow or frost - all this can turn the surface into a ready-made ice rink. So it is clear that you will definitely appreciate anti-slip paving outside. You can use it, for example:

-on the sidewalk
-in the yard
-on the terrace
-o the pool
-on the driveway
-to the balcony
-on the stairs

The slip resistance class is indicated by the letter "R" and the corresponding number (for example, R10). The number expresses the size of the slip angle. The higher the number after "R", the higher the slip resistance.

The sizes of the slip angle are as follows:

R9 = 3°-10°

R10 = 10°-19°

R11 = 19°-27°

R12 =27°-35°)

R13 = more than 35°

And what value is right for you?

R9 - use in normal domestic conditions indoors, office buildings, schools, ...

R10 - storage, kitchen, bathroom, shower, stairs, peripheral parts of pools, ...

R11 - exterior stairs, entrances, kitchens in commercial premises, halls, laundries...

R12 - dairies, starting areas, ...

R13 - fat refineries, slaughterhouses, ...

So if you are looking for flooring for the home, choose R9 for the interior and R10 for the exterior. You can also find a wide selection of exterior and interior tiles in our offer. Different sizes, colors and patterns are waiting for you.

Summary

Anti-slip resistance is an important indicator when choosing paving, on the basis of which you should decide whether your choice is correct. Tiles with higher slip resistance are suitable for exterior use and for rooms in which there is a risk of regular contact with water. If you are looking for tiles for common rooms, such as a hallway, you can choose tiles with a lower slip resistance.
